Two Department of Physics and Astronomy alumni returned to Purdue to receive awards from the College of Science.

2019 Distinguished Alumnus James Jennings

James Jennings (MS 1967) received a 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award.  Beginning his career as a physics teacher under the tutelage of Prof. Ralph Lefler, Mr. Jennings eventually made his way to the oil and gas industry where he rose to become President of Hunt Oil Company. He credits many of his achievements to the guidance he received from Prof. Lefler.

Gene Tsai - 2019 Early Career Award

Gene Tsai (BS 2006) received a 2019 Early Career Award.  In 2010, Mr. Tsai envisioned and co-created Flipboard version 1.0 as its first software developer.  Flipboard was included in Time Magazines top 50 inventions of the year and was named App of the year by Apple, Inc.  Flipboard is currently valued at $1 billion and has been installed on almost one billion mobile devices.
